The Restorative Power of Gentle Touch

When life brings heavy things, whether it is the quiet weight of overwhelming stress, chronic burnout, or profound loss, our bodies can absorb the impact. It is all too easy to hold grief in our joints, anxiety in our breath, and exhaustion in our muscles.

My sessions are designed for those times when your body and spirit need to be deeply listened to, held, put back together.

TEND Bodywork Techniques:

  • Resting Hands/Polarity Therapy: Gentle, steady holds, with my hands often resting in two places at once on the body. Used to help you settle, ground, and balance the body’s energy.

  • Rhythmic Rocking: Soft, rhythmic movements that lull your nervous system into deep relaxation and help your muscles release unnecessary tension and guarding.

  • Compressions: Broad, steady pressure that warms and softens the muscles, brings circulation into the tissue, and eases tension, all while giving a calming, grounded sense of being held.

  • Gentle, Supportive Joint Work: When a joint feels supported and moves easily, all the muscles around it can relax at once. That’s why I give extra love, space, and movement to the joints, where tension and defense tend to gather. This isn’t stretching. Everything stays well within your comfortable range, never pushing to the edge. This pleasant movement gives your joints and body a felt sense of ease that they can remember and return to.

  • Swedish Massage: Classic, familiar massage with kneading, gliding, and friction that works into tight muscles, eases tension, and helps the whole body relax.

  • Esalen-Style Long Strokes: Long, flowing strokes that travel the length of the body, with you comfortably draped throughout. Slow and luxurious, they connect one area to the next, so your body feels whole again rather than like a collection of separate parts.

  • Deep Tissue, Myofascial Release, Neuromuscular Trigger Point Therapy, and Assisted Stretching: Tension and pain live in the body, but their causes most often vary and overlap. Sometimes the cause is mostly structural, like a muscle strain, an old injury, or a medical condition. Sometimes it’s more neurological, where the ongoing impact of stress on the nervous system keeps the muscles in tight, guarded patterns. Usually it’s some of both. Many people believe that working on pain has to include extremely deep pressure or even hurt, but research and experience suggest otherwise. When the nervous system lets go, the muscles often do too. Most of my work (the holds, rocking, compressions, joint work, and long strokes) works with both at the same time. When your body needs more specific structural work, I weave in deep tissue, myofascial release, trigger point work, or assisted stretching, as long as they don’t cause pain or undo the relaxation we’ve built. I don’t offer full sessions of these techniques, but I can refer you to therapists who do.

What are sessions like with TEND?

From the moment you arrive, TEND sessions are nurturing and comforting. You’ll be greeted with a foot scrub while we check in and go over your needs for the session. When you’re ready, we’ll move to the table, and I’ll step out to wash my hands while you get comfortable under the cozy sheet and blanket. You’re welcome to stay clothed or undress to whatever level feels right, and you’ll be draped appropriately throughout.

Once you’re settled, the session begins with grounding holds, rhythmic rocking, compressions, and long strokes help you drop deeply into your body, allow your nervous system to downshift, and encourage your muscles to soften. From there, the work builds in layers, focusing wherever you need it most.

What this work isn’t

TEND isn’t Chasing that “good hurt” over and over rarely resolves the underlying issues behind pain, and TEND’s focus is on supporting the body holistically, with research backed methods, . If you want a full session of deep pressure, deep tissue or trigger point work, I’m glad to point you to someone who offers that.
